it is the year 2090 and nature has taken its revenge on the humans leaving the earth ravaged and broken men are gone and over all the predators rule and have for many years not in Piper lifetime or his fathers it is a time of war and carnage, bloodshed and horror and treachery between the tribes of the animals.





Pipers mother watched him sadly she knew that the stallion would soon force him out

Piper was grazing peacefully thinking what a lovely day it had been and the excitement at seeing another herd he belonged to the hill herd and his father the stallion Clue had told him that it was their enemy the plains herd suddenly his attention was brought back by a sound at hand he looked up to see his fathers face right close to him ' son ' he said heavily' it is time my son that you must leave the herd and start your own' 'what' said Piper horrified' leave? here? now?' Piper looked into his fathers eyes and saw the truth was before it was true.

He bade farewell to his mother other young colts and fillies were coming too they got a good start the night air was cool and blew their manes

the young horses gradually drifted apart until Piper was on his own suddenly shapes appeared in the mist he could see horses there were so many so very many

he woke up he was sore and stiff he had so many cuts and gashes he remembered all the shapes around him the mist swirling and pain all of a sudden and then black the horses must have been the other herd that they had seen he looked around slightly dazed and saw horses all around him he heard a voice it said some thing but he couldn't hear his head hurt terribly it was the voice of a beautiful filly standing in front of him a chestnut with a cream mane she nudged his head with a fore hoof and looked at him quizically he blinked humbly in the bright sunlight he recognized the father fearfully and squealed as he came nearer.

the father saw Pipers fright and backed away slowly Piper calmed and allowed the gentle chestnut mare colt to touch him she asked him his name he replied trembling 'p-piper' 'oh' said the mare colt and inspected him serenely 'I am Rook'
Piper calmed and began snorting restlessly, he looked at Rook and calmly placed a broad forehoof on Rooks fathers hoof he looked up and suddenly his whites showed and danger struck him like a bolt of lightning ' you are Raven ' he cried in terror he remembered the raking scar his father had shown him the words echoed through his head 'don't ever fight with Raven.'

He spooked as Raven came closer and double spooked when the stallion breathed heavily in his face.
